questions about his negotiations with the republicans on the financial and debt and deficit issues. and he was tuned in. he answered, he gave his side. he gave his defense. the obama -- the other night in this debate -- it was almost like there were two channels going in his mind, one on the debate and answering in the way he did, which just didn't fit together. and then when he was looking down, it's almost like something else was deeply worrying him. now, i don't know that. the point is, you know, why would he be so out of it in clearly one of the most important political moments of his life? >> sean: it is a really good question. i think -- i think he was shocked because mitt romney looked him dead in the eye, was very deep in the facts. i mean, it was just the opposites of john mccain, in the mccain debate, obama was looking mccain in the eye and mccain looking down or out at the crowd. very different in terms of the body language. on substance, romney was very knowledgeable, across the board, every question and was willing to take the president on. i don't think he is used to that? >>

. but most americans have a problem with deficits, which you've rung up four consecutive trillion dollar deficits. they both have a ltle problem with details. but there is a big, i would strike a big contrast if i was mitt romney. i would put a working state on one side and a welfare state on the other side and i would say america would be much, much better if dollars were earned instead of dollars awarded. it is time to stop rewarding our friends and punishing our enemies and having the government treat every american the same, which is a foundational principal of the rule of law. and i think mitt romney has to do more of that. has he been specific with his plan? he laid five out in the debate, which is more than the president did. that's why independents thought mitt romney did very, very well. >> let me ask you about one of the issues where they differ, medicare. that is a big deal in florida romney says he supports vouchers for medicare, a plan that is not very popular. how does play in florida with all those seniors? >> right now in florida, you've got about 12 million registered vo

"the washington post" just reported they have several trillion dollars of additional tax cuts in spending. no suggestion of what they're going to do about it. john kerry and i believe we have a moral responsibility not to leave trillions of dollars of debt to our children and our grandchildren. so, here's what we're going to do, to answer your question, to pay for the things that we believe need to be done. we talk about healthcare and education because we have plans on both those things. what we're going to do is roll back tax cuts -- and i want everyone to hear this becau

, and the numbers are troubling. on a day in which the congressional budget office announced the 2012 budget deficit came in at $11 trillion for a fourth straight year, turns out our out of control spending includes roughly $450 million given every year to the corporation for public broadcasting, $8 million of that going to, that's right, sesame workshop and big bird. it appears easy to dismiss millions of dollars when the government faces trillion of dollars in debt. the left may be cute with a call to end funding for public broadcasting, but here's the homework the left should have done before they and president obama began their reflective aattacks. they are $388 million in assets now. in merchandise sales alone, it brought in $45 million, five times what it received in government grants. that little cute sesame workshop turns out to be a moneymaker producing hundreds of millions of dollars. we take all of that up tonight with former george bush senior adviser carl rove, and as well, the unemployment rate falling to 7.8%, employers adding just 114,000 jobs. we're talking about that, and, yes, big

, to the projects that we had talked about, we had just closed out a $385 million deficit. we had introduced pension reform as we talked about it at that time to get the city in better economic gear. we had also chosen a new police chief by a year-ago and excited to see what that was. and then supervisor kim and i and david chiu had been fresh off of helping the company called twitter sustain the city and i want to thank supervisor kim, who is here today and we're working closely together to make sure we're doing it right. that all of the impacts that we can generate positively, not only on central market, but throughout her district and throughout the city. i also want to acknowledge other people that are working really hard, because my feeling in a year-ago was that after all of those things that we did, and the work that we had done that first year, rest was my major focus. and after i met with you last year, rest was not on the agenda. absolutely not. in fact, we had gone right to work because there were so many of you who had also felt that the city could turnaround. you have given me and our

surplus to deficits. and it all culminated in the worst financial crisis since the great depression. >> i suppose mr. romney thought the president wouldn't recognize the term trickle-down if he twisted it around. romney is proposing boilerplate trickle-down economics providing tax relief for businesses with the false hope that they won pocket that money but rather put it into new jobs. help the rich get richer and then they'll help everyone else. but hey, mr. romney's plan as stated in the debate may in fact sound right to you. but don't call it new. it's a been there, done that track record. lower taxes on the rich, simply don't lead to job growth. when you compare the top marginal income tax rate, the tax rate that top earners get taxed over the highest threshold with employment, growth happens when taxes are higher, not lower. let me show you a chart that the president could have used this week to simplify the whole debate. this is what the election boils down to right here. larry bartels' chart makes it clear, under democratic presidents, everyone does better, even the very top. talk
